These systems scan each individual product that is placed on a conveyor belt and then carefully fold the cardboard around the product. What did we find?
A division of a French corporate that had developed a unique technology to automate and make the packaging of webshop products more sustainable. We immediately saw that their fit-to-size packaging technology was unique, unparalleled worldwide and would change the e-commerce world. At the same time, we saw a considerable challenge in the transition that the company would have to undergo, because old production activities for the French corporate still had to be outsourced and Sparck still had to be disconnected from the same corporate “at the back”. A nice job for a hands-on investor.

What have we achieved?
Both the carve-out and the transition are going well. After 2023, the organization will be fully independent and will only be involved in the fit-to-size packaging activities. These activities are growing rapidly, with the number of machines sold almost doubling every year. We are investing heavily in the sales and service organization worldwide and are also scaling up production capacity in the Netherlands in order to facilitate substantial international growth.
