Making the move from a leader in the European market towards becoming a world market leader, setting up a new plant in China and opening an office in the U.S. That had to be achieved within five years and ALT was successful in doing so with our investment and collaboration.

What did we find?
ALT was the leading producer of covers and wraps for airbag systems in Europe in 2010. In Europe, however, there were limited growth opportunities. China was the promised land due to the substantial growth in the number of cars and the growth in the number of airbags per car. In Europe cars have on average nearly seven airbags, whereas in China there are on average only about one and a half. The main challenges the company faced were setting up a new factory in China and managing a mini-multinational company with offices in the Netherlands, Romania, China and the U.S.

What have we achieved?
By 2016 ALT China was operational and was growing more than 50% per year. We closed 2015 with revenues 75% higher than in 2010. ALT is in good condition and has a very positive outlook for the coming year. We sold ALT in 2017.

ALT Technologies is the leading global manufacturer of covers and wraps for airbag systems. ALT has factories in The Netherlands, Romania, and China and a sales office in the U.S. ALT's products can be found in three quarters of all European cars and they help save a life every two hours. Standard Investment had a majority stake in ALT Technologies between 2011 and 2017.
